Since 15 years, the Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes have the mission to promote the emergence and the mobility of young artists on a world scale. Because of the quality of their expertise and the relevance of the actions they lead, they are a major actor. They base their development on strong human values, ambitious programmes and a wide network of partners.
objectives
discover new territories, live unpredictable experiences, compare different approaches, develop a new form of artistic commitment
an original artists in residence programme
To support and promote a younger generation of artists who are inventing new forms of expression by redrawing the place of the artist in his/her relation to the other, the Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes conceived the artists in context project. For more than 6 years, this mobility programme, implemented within the framework of the European Voluntary Service and in a social, personal and economic context, has enabled some sixty young creative artists to develop artistic projects.
the relation to the others as the centre piece of the artistic process
Abandoning the usual sites of contemporary creation, these artists move in unexpected alien territories to approach new audiences. In unusual environments such as health centres, prisons, run-down estates, isolated rural areas, socially devastated urban areas, they invent approaches of great creative intelligence in which authentic human relations are at stake and possible patterns of a new form of artistic engagement can emerge.
the 6th programmee
For this 6th edition the artists in context programme intends conjugating artistic excellence and creative innovation. To do so:
the artists in context programme residency is thought to last at least 6 months to enable the artists to develop new potentialities;
the artists dispose of a complete liberty in the choice of their projects which include all forms of artistic expression (dance, theatre, music, photography, visual arts, video, street art, design, multimedia, circus...);
It invites the artists to commit themselves in ambitious projects:
- in established institutions like the Compagnie Songes, involved in the Dance Biennale of Lyon (France), or like Raumars in Finland or the Hotel Mariakapel in the Netherlands;
- inside young art centres in Malta, Slovenia or Slovakia, current drives of contemporary creation in their countries;
- in creation sites far from the usual circuits, offering new fields of experience to discover.
